There could be a new affordable housing project coming in the city of Auburn.
Syracuse-based Housing Visions, a nonprofit, is asking the Cayuga County Legislature to support its application for $2 million from the Restore NY Communities Initiative to help it acquire 197 State Street.
It would be turned into 16 affordable housing units.
A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for September 27.
The building has been owned by the city of Auburn since 2019. That followed tax foreclosure. It was previously used as a physical therapy practice. At one point, it was a community center and known as the Polish Home.
It was owned by the Society of St. John the Baptist, according to records.
The building features an elevator to all floors, gym area, baths, showers, and 10 treatment rooms.
It’s assessed at $405,000.
