Livingston County’s Historian Office announces new Deputy Director

The Livingston County Historian’s Office announced the hiring of Madeline Friedler as its newest Deputy Director following the promotion of Holly Watson earlier this summer.

Madeline, a native of York, began on August 29. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from SUNY Fredonia and a Master’s degree in museum studies from Buffalo State University. She has worked with diverse historical collections at several institutions and specializes in collections management, archival preservation and exhibit design.


“We’re very excited to welcome Madeline to the Livingston County family,” mentioned Watson who was promoted to her current role in July. “Her expertise and experience will be a great benefit as we continue to preserve our County’s history for future generations.”

Among Friedler’s responsibilities will be organizing recently acquired collections of letters, photographs and record books along with upgrading the environmental monitoring systems within the office. In the her role, Friedler will assist researchers, digitize and index materials and work with County staff on preservation and outreach projects.
