The Rochester Red Wings extended its win streak to five games with a 5-1 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Friday night at Frontier Field.
Washington Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore made his second rehab start with Rochester and tossed 2 2/3 shutout innings. Tony Romero followed in relief and allowed a run over 5 1/3 innings. Connor Sadzeck recorded the final three outs.
The Red Wings plated all five of their runs in the first three innings. John Nogowski opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single. In the bottom of the third, Jake Alu and Nick Banks smoked back-to-back RBI singles to increase the lead to 3-0. Rochester added two more runs later in the inning on a wild pitch and DJ Peters RBI single.
Rochester will try to make it six straight on Saturday. The first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
