Mets hold off Pirates for second straight win

The New York Mets led 4-1 after seven innings and held on for a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night at Citi Field.

Daniel Vogelbach crushed his 17th home run of the season. Tomás Nido and Brandon Nimmo each recorded RBI singles, and Pete Alonso collected an RBI with a sacrifice fly.


Taijuan Walker started on the mound and surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits over 7 1/3 innings while striking out five. Edwin Díaz followed Walker in relief and picked up a five-out save.

Chris Bassitt will get the ball on Saturday as the Mets try to take the first three games of this four-game series. The first pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m.
