A man was arrested for allegedly bringing a loaded gun into the emergency room at Cayuga Medical Center on Tuesday, September 13.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the medical center at 101 Harris B. Dates Drive at roughly 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of an armed man in the waiting room of the emergency department.

Deputies were already present at the hospital for an unrelated matter, according to WENY.

Police arrived at the waiting room and found Java Abdur-Razzaaq with a gun and a nervous crowd backing away from him.

The suspect then dropped the gun onto the floor and was arrested without incident, according to police.

Abdur-Razzaaq faces the following charges: Two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon: One count related to the gun’s serial number being tampered with, and the other for Abdur-Razzaaq already being a convicted felon.

He was arraigned on Wednesday, September 14 then released, say police.
