Wayne County Sheriff’s Office facing shortages: Deputies moved to 12-hour shifts to help cover patrol, school district assignments

In a special meeting this week, Geneva City Council voted 6-3 to appoint Jim Kennedy to fill the unexpired term of former Ward 1 Supervisor Dom Vedora.

He resigned from his post due to moving to the town.

Mayor Steve Valentino, as well as Councilors Laura Salamendra, Tom Burrall, Ken Camera, Anthony No-one, and Jan Regan voted for Kennedy’s appointment.

Three voted against Kennedy’s appointment, including Councilors Frank Gaglianese, Bill Pealer Jr., and Kyle Brimm, who was just appointed last week.

Four were considered for the post, which has a term end date of December 31, 2023. An election for a full-term will be held next year.

Kennedy has lived in his Ward 2 home for 35 years, according to the Finger Lakes Times. His wife and son operated a business in the city. He currently works at Finger Lakes Counseling and Recovery Agency in Penn Yan as a mental health clinician.

“I am confident my experiences on state-level policy-setting councils, nearly eight years of service in Ontario County administration and volunteer services on numerous local and regional nonprofit boards of directors and committees prepare me to service in this capacity to fulfill Supervisor Vedora’s remaining term of office,” he said in his cover letter to city councilors.
