The annual free Strong Kids Safe Kids festival, set for noon until 4p.m. on September 24 at the Steuben County Fairgrounds, will provide even more kid-friendly, family-oriented activities this year.
Now a late-summer tradition for many families in the county, the event returns after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic and is planned with outdoor COVID protocols.
Drawing more than 500 participants in 2019 Strong Kids Safe Kids is a highlight of the year for Prevent Child Abuse Steuben, which also sponsors the month-long “Pinwheel & Promises” in April.
“Strong Kids Safe Kids Festival is a collaborative effort of businesses, agencies, and individuals who want to make sure that kids simply get the chance to be kids…with no strings attached,” said Steuben County Youth Bureau Coordinator Bill Caudill.
The festival will bring back popular carnival games, inflatable bouncers and art activities tailored for children from birth to sixth grade, as well as information on health and safety issues from more than 25 family-related agencies.
The venue at the fairgrounds means more room for activities such as “Passport to Fitness” activities, rock climbing, Plinko and Connect Four. Healthy snacks will be available, and the popular and free kids’ Farmers Market will be open. A car seat safety check will also be conducted by the NYS Police.
Other activities include ”Hands-On Trucks” with vehicles from the Bath Police, Fire and Ambulance units, Bath Gas & Electric and Fleet First.
Event sponsors include GST BOCES Support Staff Association, Tyrtle Beach, Chemung Canal Trust Company, the Bath Kiwanis and the Foodbank of the Southern Tier.
