Mets offense falls flat again in loss to Cubs

The New York Mets offense was silenced again in a 4-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night at Citi Field. New York has dropped the first two games of this three-game series and three of the last five.

The Mets had just four hits, and the only run came in the bottom of the ninth inning on Pete Alonso’s 34th home run of the season.

Jacob deGrom started on the hill and allowed three runs on four hits over six innings while striking out 10. Seth Lugo surrendered a run in relief, while Adam Ottavino and Edwin Díaz had scoreless appearances.

The Mets will try to salvage the final game on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m.
