Jake Alu’s grand slam lifted the Rochester Red Wings past the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the series opener on Tuesday night at Frontier Field.
Alu’s third-inning grand slam capped off a five-run third inning. It was his ninth home run of the season and fifth in the last six games. Taylor Gushue opened the scoring with a solo shot.
Patrick Murphy started on the mound and allowed a run over 4 2/3 innings of work while walking two and striking out five. Alberto Baldonado picked up the win in relief after tossing 1 1/3 innings. Connor Sadzeck surrendered a pair of runs over two innings before Reed Garrett recorded the save.
The two teams will be back in action on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m.
