The New York Mets opened a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs on Monday night at Citi Field and fell, 5-2.
Chris Bassitt started on the mound and allowed five runs on five hits over 3 2/3 innings while walking two and striking out two. The bullpen did a nice job as Tommy Hunter, Trevor May, Mychal Givens, and Joely Rodríguez all had scoreless outings.
James McCann drove in the first run for the Mets with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. The other run came in the bottom of the ninth on Francisco Lindor’s 23rd home run of the season.
Jacob deGrom will get the ball on Tuesday as the Mets will try to bounce back. The first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
