The boys of summer are moving closer to fall and the playoffs. Paul Russo and Kyle Evans return for Concrete Jungle to break down the month of September so far. Both the Mets and Yankees have begun the month 6-4, but the map to get there has been different for the teams. The Mets have dealt with a few more injuries but have some reinforcements ready to go. Mark Vientos got the call-up to the big-league club over the weekend to help boost the Met offense as the Braves close the gap in the division.
The Yankees started September slow against the Rays but have turned it around courtesy of the same team. Aaron Judge continues his MVP-caliber year. Judge finds himself with history in sight as he closes in on 60 home runs. Aaron Hicks had a miserable Friday that resulted in a benching by Aaron Boone that reminded some of Reggie Jackson and Billy Martin’s famous substitution. Ben Rortvedt spent a few games in the Bronx and Derek Jeter returned to Yankee Stadium and made some newsworthy comments.
Rochester and Syracuse only have a few weeks left to play in the AAA season. Both squads are home for a final weeklong series as they find themselves on the outside of the playoff picture. Paul and Kyle look at what lies ahead for the teams both immediately and next season.
