Injuries continue to pile up for the New York Yankees as the team placed infielder DJ LeMahieu on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to September 5) with right toe inflammation.
It’s unclear how long LeMahieu, who last played on Sunday, will be sidelined.
The 34-year-old has been in an extended slump, hitting just .187 with four extra-base hits and a .497 OPS since the beginning of August. Manager Aaron Boone did admit that the injury has been affecting him over the last few weeks. Overall, LeMahieu is slashing .262/.358/.381 over 120 games this season.
In a corresponding move, New York recalled utilityman Miguel Andújar from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The Yankees now have 15 players on the IL, including first baseman Anthony Rizzo and outfielder Andrew Benintendi.
