GENESEO, N.Y.—The William Smith College field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season as they were defeated 3-2 by a strong Geneseo team.
Brittany Foster played all 60 minutes in goal for the Herons, recording seven saves on the night. Leading the Herons offense was junior Sofia Pattillo as she recorded six shots on the night, all of which being on target.
• Just 2:39 into the game, Pattillo opened the scoring for William Smith as she followed up a rebound of her own shot and put it past the Geneseo goalie, earning her third goal of the season.
• With under four minutes remaining in the first quarter, graduate student Emily Leonard notched her second goal of the season as she slotted the ball past the Geneseo goalie. Pattillo was credited with the assist, bringing her assist count to two on the season.
• The Geneseo offense turned up the heat in the second half as they forced Foster to save seven shots within the half.
“We started off the game very strong and as we settled into the game, Geneseo really elevated their play,” Head Coach Sophie Riskie ’07 said. “We learned some things today and will refocus for the weekend ahead.”
