The Yates County Legislature holds a special meeting tonight to approve the paperwork for a $267,597 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant.
Four area airports receive FAA grants
The grant will be used to purchase aircraft deicing equipment for the Penn Yan Airport. The airport is one of four in the area to receive FAA Airport Improvement Program grants this year. The Finger Lakes Regional Airport in Seneca Falls got $58,500 for an emergency generator. The Canandaigua Airport got $177,210 for a generator. The Frederick Douglass-Greater Rochester Regional Airport received $2,159,718 for taxiway renovation and another $2,149,869 for improvements to an access road.

Penn Yan testing solar runway lighting system
FAA officials have been testing a solar-powered lighting system at the Penn Yan Airport this year. The agency hopes to be able to eventually install the solar lights at airports that can’t afford conventional lighting.
