Syracuse Mets drop third straight to SWB RailRiders

The Syracuse Mets dropped their third straight game on Saturday night at PNC Park with a 14-5 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jumped out to a quick lead and led 5-0 after two innings. Nick Meyer put Syracuse on the board in the top of the third with a two-run shot, his third of the season. Later in the inning, a run scored on a throwing error, and the RailRiders’ lead was cut to 5-3. However, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre answered in the bottom of the frame and extended their lead to 7-3.

The RailRiders added three more runs in the fourth before J.T. Riddle crushed a two-run homer in the seventh, his eighth of the season, to make it a 10-5 game.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre broke the game open with four more runs in the eighth to secure the victory.

Gosuke Katoh collected two of the Mets’ six hits. Travis Jankowski and Dominic Smith also registered hits.

Syracuse starter Jesus Vargas allowed seven runs on nine hits over 2 2/3 innings.

The week-long series will conclude on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Jose Rodriguez will start for the Mets.
