Get ready for an Amazon warehouse in Bath.
Officials in Steuben County are hopeful that the Amazon facility, which is currently under construction, will be complete and open for business by November 18.
Amazon has been scaling back its expansion efforts as part of the COVID-19 pandemic. Consumer habits have shifted in such a way between 2019 and 2021 that the company found itself with too many workers and too much space.
Now, Amazon has been subleasing some facilities.
However, officials tell The Evening Tribune that the Bath project is full speed ahead.
“Their plan is to have the construction complete by November 18. I don’t know what their opening schedule looks like. Construction gets done and then they have to fill it,” Steuben County IDA Executive Director Jamie Johnson said. “It’s going to be open.”
For its part, the company said the Bath project has always been a priority. “The only thing that’s changed with our plan sis the exact timing,” a company spokesperson told The Tribune.
Originally when the project was announced, between 200 and 250 employees were possible. However, at this point it’s unclear if the facility will feature that many workers given the changing landscape of how Amazon does business.
