New York Mets rookie infielder Brett Baty underwent an MRI that revealed a UCL tear in his right thumb that will require surgery, the team announced Wednesday.
The typical timeline for Baty’s injury is five weeks, so he will likely miss the remainder of the regular season but could return for the postseason.
Baty, the Mets’ No. 2 prospect, has hit .184/.244/.342 with two home runs in 11 games since being called up from Triple-A Syracuse.
With Baty going on the injured list, veteran outfielder Terrance Gore has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.
