In this episode, we talk with Gilda Brower, who’s been involved with the CNY Tomatofest in Auburn for 25 of its 37 years.
This year’s event is set for Saturday, September 10 in Auburn. Tomatofest raises money and collects food donations for ten food pantries in Cayuga County.
The event includes family and children’s activities, music and dance, craft vendors, and displays by local non-profit groups. Onondaga Coach is sponsoring a raffle. The first prize is a “steamboats and stallions” six-day tour of Kentucky. Admission to Tomatofest is free.

Saturday night, Auburn Public Theater is hosting “CNY Rising Stars,” featuring three groups of young musicians from the area, Glass Image, Continuum, and Sydney Irving and the Mojo. That is a ticketed event.
We discussed the challenges of feeding the hungry in Cayuga County, especially since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and this year’s canned food challenge between the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department and Auburn Community Hospital.
