The New York Yankees were unable to secure a series victory on Sunday evening at the Coliseum as they fell to the Oakland Athletics, 4-1.
Clarke Schmidt made his second start of the season for the Yankees and allowed four runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings while walking one and striking out seven.
Anthony Banda, who was signed to a Major League contract and added to the active roster before the game, recorded two outs. Greg Weissert bounced back from his rough Major League debut by retiring all six batters he faced. Luke Bard also made his Yankees debut and tossed a scoreless inning.
New York’s only run of the game came in the top of the fifth on Kyle Higashioka’s two-out RBI single. Aside from that, the Yankees had just three hits.
The Yankees will head to Anaheim to begin a three-game series with the Angels on Monday night. The first pitch is slated for 9:38 p.m.
