Police say that on Friday around 1:15 a.m. officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of West State Street and Floral Avenue in the city of Ithaca when a passenger in that vehicle fired multiple rounds at them from the sunroof.
The vehicle then attempted to flee, which resulted in a brief pursuit.
Police took a 19-year-old Ithaca resident, idnetified as Joshua Rice, into custody on a felony charge of criminal possession of a weapon.
He was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.
IPD thanked the sheriff’s office and New York State Police for their assistance in the investigation.
Police say no further information is being released at this time. Witnesses of the incident are encouraged to contact IPD to aid in the investigation as it continues.
No injuries were reported. The driver of the vehicle was not identified.
