The New York Mets reinstated veteran reliever Tommy Hunter from the 15-day injured list, the team announced Friday. In a corresponding move, the club optioned catcher Micahel Perez to Triple-A Syracuse.
Hunter returns to the bullpen after dealing with lower-back tightness. He has posted a 2.51 ERA over 14 1/3 innings with the Mets this season.
New York had been carrying three catchers on the 26-man roster after Tomás Nido returned from the injured list. Perez hit .143/.250/.143 with three RBIs over 16 plate appearances.
The Mets are hosting the Colorado Rockies on Friday night in the second game of a four-game series. The first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
