The first round of September September Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments will start going out next Thursday.
Recipients will be getting two direct payments in September.

Why are there two payments in September?
Eligible SSI recipients will be getting two checks in September, each worth up to $841. The first payment is set to be distributed on September 1. September is one of the three months out of the year that recipients get two checks in one month.
Usually, when the payments are sent out on the first of the month. When the first happens to be a weekend or a holiday, the payment will go out the weekday before.
The second payment in September is because October 1 falls on a Saturday this year. That means SSI claimants will get their October payment on September 30 instead.
The other months with double payments this year are April and December.
People who live with and care for SSI recipients will also receive two payments in September, worth $421 each.
Keep in mind that this isn’t an extra payment for the month of September, it is an early distribution for the month of October.
