Rochester Red Wings bounce back with win over Indianapolis

The Rochester Red Wings bounced back from Tuesday’s series-opening loss to the Indianapolis Indians with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field.

Logan Verrett got the ball for Rochester and shined as he tossed seven innings of one-run ball while striking out six. The right-hander picked up the win to improve to 7-7 on the season.

The Red Wings jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Josh Nogowski’s RBI groundout.

Indianapolis tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on Cal Mitchell’s run-scoring single.

Rochester regained the lead in the top of the eighth and added an insurance run. Lucius Fox gave the Red Wings the lead with an RBI single. One batter later, Nogowski collected his second RBI of the game with another groundout to extend the lead to 3-1.

The Indians brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Red Wings closer Jordan Weems struck out the next two batters to end the contest.

Game three of this six-game series is set for Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
