The Rochester Red Wings opened a six-game series with the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday night at Victory Field and fell short in a 3-2 loss.
Patrick Murphy got the ball for Rochester and fired four shutout and hitless innings while striking out four.
The Red Wings opened the scoring in the top of the second as Nick Banks launched his seventh home run of the season to give Rochester a 1-0 lead.
Indianapolis grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth on Cal Mitchell’s run-scoring single and Diego Castillo’s bases-loaded walk.
In the top of the seventh, the Red Wings tied the game on Taylor Gushue’s third home run of the season.
However, the Indians regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth on Mitchell’s solo shot. That ended up being the difference in the game as Rochester could not take advantage of a leadoff walk in the top of the ninth.
The Red Wings will try to even the series on Wednesday with Logan Verrett on the mound. The first pitch is slated for 1:35 p.m.
