The New York Yankees picked up a Subway Series victory over the New York Mets on Monday night at Yankee Stadium with a 4-2 win.
Domingo Germán started for the Yankees and allowed a pair of runs (one earned) over 6 1/3 innings. Max Scherzer got the ball for the Mets and surrendered a season-high four runs over 6 2/3 innings.
The Bronx Bombers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. DJ LeMahieu gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the third, Aaron Judge snapped a nine-game homerless streak with a solo shot to right-center to make it 2-0. That was his Major-League-leading 47th home run of the season.
The Yankees extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth on Andrew Benintendi’s run-scoring double.
The Mets plated both of their runs in the top of the seventh on Daniel Vogelbach’s 16th home run of the season. In the bottom of the frame, the Yankees added a huge insurance run. Benintendi collected his second RBI of the night with a single.
The two teams will meet again on Tuesday in the Subway Series finale. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
