Business owner fights back after attempted robbery in Ithaca: One suspect in custody, another still at-large

Police say a 32-year-old Newfield man is in custody and being held on $100,000 cash bail after a shots fired and robbery investigation in the city of Ithaca.

Around 7:15 p.m. on Friday officers responded to Dankie’s Glass Shop for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers interviewed victims and witnesses finding that two black males had attempted to burglarize the store and was met with resistance from the owner.

After a brief struggle, the suspects fled the area.

An officer who was canvassing the area located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Dominique Stewart, 32, of Newfield was found to be driving and taken into custody without incident. The second suspect involved was not located.

For his alleged role, Stewart was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, a Class C felony.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.

Anyone with information about the investigation is encouraged to contact IPD.
