Syracuse Mets’ late rally falls short in loss to Charlotte

The Syracuse Mets’ late rally fell short in a 12-11 loss to the Charlotte Knights on Friday night at Truist Field. The six-game series is now even at two games apiece.

Syracuse trailed 10-3 after six innings but plated one run in the seventh and seven more in the eighth to make it a one-run game. The Mets had an opportunity to tie the game or take the lead in the ninth as they had runners on first and second with one out, but Francisco Alvarez and Terrance Gore struck out to end the game.

J.T. Riddle collected three hits and three RBIs to lead the Mets’ offense. Khalil Lee smacked his 10th home run of the season. Gosuke Katoh and Jose Colina drove in a pair of runs, while Dominic Smith, Mark Vientos, and Daniel Palka also chipped in with RBIs.

Harol Gonzalez started for Syracuse and allowed seven runs on seven hits over 1 1/3 innings.

The Mets will try to bounce back on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
