Mets bounce back with win over Phillies

The New York Mets bounced back from Thursday’s loss with a 7-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Chris Bassitt started for New York and allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings while striking out four. The right-hander earned the win, improving to 11-7 on the season.

Adam Ottavino, Joely Rodríguez, and Trevor May each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.


Pete Alonso crushed his 30th home run of the season and notched three RBIs to lead the Mets’ offense. Brett Baty collected a pair of RBIs, and Jeff McNeil drove in a run also. Francisco Lindor had a three-hit game, while Starling Marte had two.

The two teams will play a day-night doubleheader on Saturday. The first game will start at 1:05, and the second game will begin at 7:15. Trevor Williams and David Peterson are the scheduled starters.
