New York Mets’ first baseman Pete Alonso has committed to playing for Team USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, Major League Baseball announced Wednesday.
Alonso joins several MLB stars who have committed to play in the tournament, including Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Paul Goldschmidt, Trevor Story, and J.T. Realmuto who will also represent the United States.
The 27-year-old is hitting .277/.356/.530 with 29 home runs and 97 RBIs this season.
The World Baseball Classic will take place in March with Taichung, Tokyo, Miami, and Phoenix as the host cities.
The United States won the last World Baseball Classic in 2017.
