The Rochester Red Wings opened a six-game series with the Worcester Red Sox on Tuesday night at Polar Park and came out victorious by a score of 4-1. With the victory, Rochester has won four of their last five games.
Logan Verrett started for the Red Wings and shined as he tossed six innings of one-run ball while striking out five. The left-hander improved to 6-7 on the season.
Rochester opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Daniel Johnson put the Red Wings on the board with an RBI single. Then, Jake Alu followed that with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
The Red Wings extended their lead in the top of the third as Johnson drove in his second run of the night with an RBI double. Alu followed that with his second sacrifice fly of the game to make it 4-0. Worcester plated their lone run in the bottom of the inning on a Ronaldo Hernandez RBI double.
Will Harris, Mason Thompson, and Jordan Weems each fired a scoreless inning in relief.
The second game of the six-game series is set for Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.
