The Washington Nationals have called up top prospect C.J. Abrams from Triple-A Rochester, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The 21-year-old shortstop is expected to join the Nationals on Monday for the series opener against the Chicago Cubs.
The Nationals acquired Abrams from the San Diego Padres in the Juan Soto deal earlier this month.
Infielder Luis Garcia, who suffered a groin strain recently, will be placed on the injured list to make room for Abrams on the roster.
Abrams hit .232 in 46 games with the Padres this season and also spent time with San Diego’s Triple-A affiliate.
