City of Geneva seeking Director of Planning & Economic Development

The City of Geneva is looking to hire an economic development professional to oversee all matters related to development and planning for the city.

The city’s Director of Planning and Economic Development will be responsible for leading strategy on issues related to business development, zoning, housing, tourism, community engagement, energy and community sustainability, according to the city’s job posting.

It’s is an appointed position that reports directly to the City Manager and serves as department head. The salary is $80,707 plus a benefits package, which varies depending on qualifications and experience.

Geneva seeks newest member of city management team

The Director of Planning and Dev. works will other members of the city management team on community development, facilities, finance and code enforcement.

Additionally, the Director will be tasked with gathering of information and preparing studies, reports and recommendations to achieve short and long term community development goals.

The Director supervises a team of two people with strong grant writing/administration functions, continues the listing.


Qualifications include “a strong background in supervisory/management with an emphasis on interpersonal and negotiation skills, leadership, marketing, professional judgement and decision-making.”

Furthermore, a strong candidate will have a bachelor’s degree from accredited institution in a relevant field, five years of related professional work experience, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

The position requires a valid New York State driver’s license. A Master’s degree as well as municipal work experience is preferred.
