Mets waste Jacob deGrom’s return in loss to Nationals

The New York Mets fell to the Washington Nationals, 5-1, on Tuesday night at Nationals Park. The three-game series is now even at a game apiece.

Jacob deGrom made his season debut for New York and tossed five innings of two-run ball while striking out six. However, the offense did not provide him with much run support, and he received a no-decision.

Francisco Lindor drove in the lone run with his 19th home run of the season. Other than that, the Mets had five hits, with two coming from Tyler Naquin.

Stephen Nogosek surrendered three runs in relief, and Yoan López allowed a run. Tommy Hunter fired a scoreless inning.

The Mets will try to bounce back on Wednesday and secure a series win with Chris Bassitt on the mound. The first pitch is slated for 4:05 p.m.
