The odds for winning the Mega Millions are one out of 302,575,350.
The odds of winning the Powerball are one out of 292,201,338.
In the state of New York, there have been 12 grand prize winning tickets, which is 75%.
Purchasing multiple tickets will afford you more chances at winning, but not better chances at becoming rich.
If you pick or end up with the same numbers as others, then you’ll have to share the grand prize.
More people are likely to buy Mega Millions tickets for this drawing because the grand prize is so high
One interesting fact is that you do not need to be a resident of the U.S. to win the jackpot, according to NPR.
You can purchase tickets in the following states online if you register with local lotteries

New York offers a Mega Millions subscription.
If you opt to buy the ticket online, make sure it isn’t a scam.
Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah don’t offer Mega Millions, but you can purchase a ticket from another state.
If you win, you’ll have to redeem your winning ticket in the state you bought it in.
Each ticket is worth $2 and you can pick or have six numbers picked for you.
White ball numbers are the first five numbers on a ticket and range from 1 to 70.
The last number, the gold ball, is between 1 and 25.
You can buy a Quick Pick right at the machine, or you can use the Mega Millions random generator and get random numbers ahead of time.
You may then put them in at the machine when buy a ticket.
If you want to see the total jackpot, all six of your numbers must match what is drawn.

If I win how do I get paid the money?
You can choose between getting a lump sum at the time of winning or choosing an annual payout.
If you choose the lump sum and win the jackpot, you’ll only see $602.5 million in cash out o the $1.025 billion.
If you choose to get paid annually, you’ll see one payment right after you win then a payment per year for 29 years.
The payments will increase by 5% each year to keep up with your lifestyle and protect you from inflation.
The biggest jackpot that was ever won was in Oct. 2018 and it was worth $1.537 billion dollars.
