The New York Mets defeated the New York Yankees, 3-2, in walk-off fashion on Wednesday night at Citi Field. With the victory, the Mets won the first two games of the Subway Series.
Max Scherzer tossed seven shutout innings for the Mets while Domingo Germán surrendered a pair of runs over 4 2/3 innings for the Yankees.
The Mets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Pete Alonso smacked his 26th home run of the season.
Francisco Lindor extended the lead in the bottom of the third with a run-scoring single.
Gleyber Torres put the Yankees on the board and tied the game with a two-run home run over the right-field wall in the top of the eighth. That was his 16th long ball of the season.
In the bottom of the ninth, Starling Marte hammered a walk-off single to left to give the Mets a 3-2 victory.
The Yankees will open a four-game series with the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night in the Bronx. The Mets will get the day off on Thursday before they begin a three-game series with the Miami Marlins on Friday night.
