The Rochester Red Wings (47-48) dropped their seventh consecutive game as they fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (47-48), 7-4, on Wednesday night at Frontier Field.
Cade Cavalli started for Rochester and tossed five shutout innings while striking out three.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Rochester plated three runs to take a 3-0 lead. Joey Meneses drove in the first run of the game with an RBI triple. A couple of batters later, David Dahl smacked a two-run home run over the wall in right-center.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre responded in the top of the seventh and grabbed the lead. Chris Owings put RailRiders on the board with a run-scoring groundout. Later in the frame, Miguel Andújar crushed a three-run home run over the left-field wall to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 4-3 lead. Josh Breaux capped off the inning with an RBI single to make it 5-3.
Meneses collected his second RBI of the night in the bottom of the seventh as he ripped an RBI single to cut the RailRiders lead to 5-4.
In the top of the eighth, Jake Bauers drilled a two-run home run over the wall in right-center to make it 7-4.
Rochester tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth but they were unable to scratch across any runs.
The six-game series will continue on Thursday at 11:05 a.m.
