The New York Mets completed a doubleheader sweep of the Chicago Cubs on Saturday at Wrigley Field with a pair of extra-inning victories. New York opened the twin bill with a 2-1 win in 11 innings before taking the second game, 4-3, in 10 innings.
Taijuan Walker started on the mound for the Mets in the first game and tossed six innings of one-run ball.
Pete Alonso provided all of the offense for New York. He drove in a run in the top of the fourth with an RBI double. In the top of the 11th, he brought home a run with a sacrifice fly and that ended up being the difference in the game.
Max Scherzer started on the hill for the Mets in the nightcap and surrendered a pair of runs over 6 1/3 innings.
Eduardo Escobar homered for New York while Francisco Lindor and Alonso also had RBIs. The winning win came on a failed pickoff attempt.
The Mets will go for the four-game sweep on Sunday. The first pitch is slated for 2:20 p.m.
