Another federal stimulus check is unlikely.

However, some states are issuing their own stimulus checks.

California
Governor Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers have agreed to send millions to California residents as inflation relief. The checks could be worth as much as $1,050 for married couples with at least one child. The stimulus payments will come out of California’s $97 billion budget surplus. The payments will go out as direct deposits or as debut cards by 2023, but they could be going out as soon as October.
The exact amount of the refund varies based on income, tax-filing status and household size.
Colorado
State residents that filed their 2021 tax return by June 30 will get a check worth $750 by September. Joint filers will get $1,500. Those who receive an extension and file by October 17, will receive their refund before the end of January 2023.
Delaware
Governor John Carney signed a bill in April approving $300 stimulus checks. These checks will go to residents who filed their 2020 tax returns. Payments started going out in May.
Georgia
Rebates for taxpayers who filed both 2020 and 2021 tax returns were authorized in March. In May payments worth $250 for single filers, $375 for head of household, and $500 for joint filers were distributed.
Hawaii
Residents earning less than $100,000 in 2021 will get a $300 tax rebate this year. Dependents will also be eligible for the rebate. The payments should start going out in August.
Idaho
In March checks worth $75 or 12% of their 2020 state income were sent out. These were sent to taxpayers and dependents.
Illinois
Illinois’ relief package is estimated to be valued at $1.83 billion. The amount was determined by filing status and family size. There are also other measures in Illinois like:
- a suspension of the state’s 1% sales tax on groceries from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023
- sale taxes for qualified clothing and school supplies will be reduced from 6.25% to 1.25% from Aug. 5 to 14
- a permanent expansion of the earned income credit from 18% to 20% of the federal credit
- property tax rebates for homeowners
Indiana
In May, payments started going out to all residents regardless of income. This was a result of Indiana’s automatic taxpayer refund law. The checks were worth $225.
Maine
Maine taxpayers who filed their 2021 state returns and have an AGI less than $100,000 are eligible for an $850 direct relief stimulus payment. Couples filing jointly will receive a single payment of $1,700. Checks are expected to arrive before mid-July.
Massachusetts
Massachusetts State Legislature is working to provide one-time tax rebates. The rebate would be worth $250 for individual taxpayers and $500 to married couples. The money is coming out of the state’s $3.6 billion revenue surplus. The plan is still being finalized, but checks are expected to go out by the end of September.
Minnesota
Certain frontline workers in Minnesota will receive a one-time payment of $750. Applications are open now and will be accepted through July 22 and checks will go out at the end of the month.
New Jersey
Governor Phil Murphy has already signed off on a $500 tax rebate for nearly 1 million New Jersey residents. The payments will go to residents who who use a taxpayer identification number instead of a Social Security number, which would include nonresident and resident aliens and their families.
New Mexico
The Land of Enchantment issued $250 rebate checks to state taxpayers in both May and June. In total, residents received $500. Another rebate is scheduled to be distributed in July. However, there are some stipulations:
- Married couples filing joint returns, heads of household and surviving spouses with incomes under $150,000 are all eligible to receive a $500 income tax rebate
- Single filers and married individuals who file separately, meanwhile, are eligible for a $250 rebate if they have incomes under $75,000
No action is needed unless your 2021 state income taxes are filed before May 1, 2023.
New York
In June nearly 3 million New York state homeowners started receiving property-tax rebates of up to $1,050. Those who qualify will automatically receive a check.
Pennsylvania
In July, a $121.7 million payout issued through the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program helped more than 260,000 older homeowners, renters and people with disabilities. Eligible residents are encouraged to visit the MyPath website or file a paper application before December 31, 2022. The maximum standard rebate is $650.
South Carolina
Income tax refund checks of up to $800 will be sent out to South Carolina taxpayers. The checks will start to go out in late November or December. Any resident who paid at least $100 in taxes will receive a $100 rebate. However, you can get up to $800 based on your tax liability.
Virginia
Starting in September, Virginia residents will get $250 and couples filing jointly will get $500.
