The Rochester Red Wings bounced back with a 4-1 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Thursday night at Frontier Field.
Sterling Sharp started on the mound for Rochester and allowed a run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings while striking out a season-high nine batters.
Omaha jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on Dairon Blanco’s groundout.
Rochester plated all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth. Andrew Stevenson tied the game with an RBI groundout. Ildemaro Vargas followed that with a run-scoring single to right to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead. Joey Meneses capped off the inning with a two-run home run over the left-field wall. That was his 17th long ball of the season. Meneses collected two of the team’s five hits.
The Red Wings bullpen was very good as Alberto Baldonado, Victor Arano, Matt Cronin, and Patrick Murphy all had scoreless outings.
The two teams will continue this six-game series on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
