How can I get money for items I want to return?

It seems strange to most people that a store would pay you to keep an item you want to return. Not only does it build customer loyalty, but it is a financial necessity for many. As consumers face rising costs, stores are left with excess inventory and supply chain issues.

For the store to pay for return shipping and restock the product will cost more than simply giving it away. That is why it makes sense to give the customer the refund but allow them to keep the product they don’t want.

An analysis found that retailers can lose more by accepting certain returns– so they refund the customer and let them keep the item. Retail returns have spiked to about $761 billion in 2021. This accounts for 16% of all retail sales in the US. Unfortunately, inflation has only exacerbated the problem.
