The Rochester Red Wings held a three-run lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning but were unable to hold on as Lehigh Valley walked it off to secure a 6-5 victory on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park. The six-game series is now even at two games apiece.
Veteran pitcher Aníbal Sánchez made his third rehab start with Rochester and surrendered two runs (one earned) over 5 1/3 innings.
Lehigh Valley jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Dalton Guthrie ripped an RBI single to left.
Adrian Sanchez put the Red Wings on the board in the fourth and gave them the lead with a two-run double to left. One batter later, Josh Palacios grounded one through the right side for a run-scoring single.
Guthrie collected his second RBI of the night in the fifth with an RBI ground-rule double to cut Rochester’s lead to 3-2.
The Red Wings plated two runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-2. Palacios drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI single. Later in the frame, Palacios stole second and Sanchez stole home.
Guthrie crushed a game-tying three-run home run in the ninth. Later in the inning, Josh Ockimey lined a walk-off single to center to give the IronPigs the win.
Red Wings reliever Alberto Baldonado allowed all four runs in relief.
Rochester will try to bounce back on Saturday with Sterling Sharp on the mound. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
