The New York Mets fell to the Miami Marlins, 5-2, on Friday night at Citi Field. The four-game series is now even at a game apiece.
Chris Bassitt made his return from the injured list and started on the mound for New York. He surrendered a pair of runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Miami opened the scoring in the second inning as Bryan De La Cruz ripped an RBI double to left field.
In the third, Brandon Nimmo drilled one over the wall in right-center for a solo home run to tie the game, 1-1.
Joey Wendle put the Marlins back on top in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Garrett Cooper crushed a two-run shot over the right-field wall in the eighth to extend the lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the frame, Francisco Lindor launched one over the left-field wall for a solo homer to make it a two-run game.
The Marlins got the run right back in the ninth as Jacob Stallings laid down a sacrifice bunt to make it a 5-2 game.
Drew Smith allowed two runs in relief and Joely Rodríguez gave up one.
Carlos Carrasco will get the start on Saturday evening as the Mets will try to bounce back. The first pitch is slated for 4:10 p.m.
