Syracuse Mets smack nine home runs in doubleheader split with Buffalo

The Syracuse Mets smacked a combined nine home runs while splitting a doubleheader with the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday at Sahlen Field. The Mets took game one, 9-4, before falling in the nightcap, 6-4.

In the first game, Travis Blankenhorn hit two of Syracuse’s seven home runs. Gosuke Katoh, Deven Marrero, Travis Jankowski, Mark Vientos, and Khalil Lee also homered. Katoh, Marrero, and Jankowski went back-to-back-to-back in the second inning. Five of the nine players in the Mets’ starting lineup had multi-hit games.

Thomas Szapucki started on the mound for Syracuse and allowed four runs over five innings. Yoan López tossed two scoreless innings in relief.


Nick Podkul hit a three-run home run for Buffalo.

In game two, Kramer Robertson and Nick Plummer went deep and Johneswhy Fargas collected a pair of RBIs with a single.

Rob Zastryzny started on the bump and surrendered a run over two innings. Trey Cobb allowed two runs in relief while Michel Otanez gave up three.

The week-long series continues on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
