The Syracuse Mets opened a seven-game series with the Buffalo Bisons on Monday night at Sahlen Field and came out victorious by a score of 4-3. With the victory, Syracuse has won five of their last seven games and 13 of their last 20.
Connor Grey started on the mound for Syracuse and surrendered a pair of runs over five innings. The right-hander picked up the win, improving to 4-3 on the season.
The Mets opened the scoring in the second inning as Gosuke Katoh launched a two-run home run over the right-field wall to give Syracuse an early 2-0 lead. However, Buffalo quickly knotted the game in the bottom of the frame on a pair of RBI doubles by Nathan Lukes and Otto Lopez.
New York Mets’ top-ranked prospect Francisco Álvarez, who was making his Triple-A debut, smoked a run-scoring single into left field in the fifth to put Syracuse back on top, 3-2.
Johneswhy Fargas extended the lead in the seventh as he grounded one through the right side for an RBI single, making it 4-2.
Buffalo added a run in the ninth as Lukes collected his second RBI of the game with a single but Stephen Nogosek closed it out and recorded the save.
Syracuse will get the day off on Tuesday before returning to action with a doubleheader on Wednesday against Buffalo. The first game is slated for 6 p.m.
