Yankees blanked by Guardians in series finale

The New York Yankees were unable to complete the three-game sweep of the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field as they fell 3-0.

Jordan Montgomery started on the mound for New York and surrendered a run on three hits over five innings while striking out eight. JP Sears allowed the other run in relief.

The Yankees’ offense was completely shut down as they had just one hit. They did have an opportunity in the ninth as Aaron Hicks came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs but he grounded out to end the game.

Franmil Reyes provided all of Cleveland’s offense as he homered and drove in a run with a single.

The Yankees will get the day off on Monday before they begin a quick two-game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Tuesday night.
