Mets bounce back with win over Rangers

The New York Mets defeated the Texas Rangers, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field to secure the series win.

Carlos Carrasco started on the mound for New York and surrendered a run over 5 2/3 innings. Joely Rodríguez, Adam Ottavino, and Edwin Díaz had scoreless outings in relief.

The Mets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Starling Marte’s solo home run.

Texas tied the game in the third on Jonah Heim’s solo shot.

Jeff McNeil put New York back on top in the fourth with a run-scoring double. Eduardo Escobar followed that with a two-run shot to extend the lead to 4-1.

Dominic Smith collected two of the Mets’ seven hits.

The Mets will head to Cincinnati to begin a three-game series with the Reds on Monday night.
