Mets fall to Rangers, 7-3

The New York Mets fell to the Texas Rangers, 7-3, on Saturday evening at Citi Field. The three-game series is now even at a game apiece.

Trevor Williams made his seventh start of the season for New York and surrendered five runs over 3 2/3 innings. Joely Rodríguez and T0mmy Hunter each allowed a run in relief. Chasen Shreve and Adonis Medina had scoreless outings.

Starling Marte put the Mets up 2-0 in the first inning with his eighth home run of the season.

Texas responded in the second with four runs to take the lead. Kole Calhoun smacked a three-run homer, and Jonah Heim belted a solo shot.


Calhoun homered again in the top of the fourth to increase the Rangers’ lead to 5-2. In the bottom of the frame, Eduardo Escobar drilled his eighth home run of the season.

The Rangers added another run in the eighth on Corey Seager’s RBI single and one more in the ninth on Leody Taveras’ solo homer to secure the victory.

The Mets will try to take two of three from the Rangers on Sunday afternoon with Carlos Carrasco on the mound. The first pitch is slated for 1:40 p.m.
