The Washington Nationals made several roster moves on Friday afternoon.
The team recalled catcher Tres Barrera from the Rochester Red Wings and optioned catcher Riley Adams to Triple-A Rochester.
Washington also reinstated right-handed pitcher Mason Thompson from the 60-day injured list and designated left-handed pitcher Sam Clay for assignment.
Barrera hit .256 with seven doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 24 RBI, 20 walks, and 25 runs scored in 51 games with Triple-A Rochester. The 27-year-old has not appeared in a Major League game since 2021.
Adams hit .192 with one double, three homers, five RBI, nine walks, and eight runs scored in 27 games with the Nationals this season.
Thompson appeared in six rehab outings between Triple-A Rochester and the Florida Complex League Nationals. The 24-year-old posted a 1.35 ERA with 11 strikeouts and zero walks in those six appearances.
Clay has really struggled this season. He posted a 10.38 ERA in six relief outings with Washington in 2022.
