New York Mets starting pitcher Chris Bassitt was scratched from his start on Friday against the Texas Rangers and was placed on the COVID-19 injured list.
Right-hander R.J. Alvarez was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and will take Bassitt’s spot on the 26-man roster. Alvarez has a 2.49 ERA over 20 games at Triple-A Syracuse.
David Peterson will now start Friday’s game, the team announced. The left-hander is 4-1 with a 3.10 ERA over 52 1/3 innings with New York this season.
It is not yet know if Bassitt has tested positive or if he was just a close contact to someone who has.
