New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer told reporters Friday that he will return from the injured list and rejoin the rotation on Tuesday to face the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.
Scherzer has not pitched in a Major League game since May 18 when he left his start early with a left oblique strain.
The right-hander just completed a minor-league rehab assignment with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. He struck out 14 batters in six innings across two starts.
Scherzer owns a 2.54 ERA with 59 strikeouts through eight starts and 49 2/3 innings this season.
